Mama Gamez’s Crochet Flower PatternPosted by Family Craft Studio on May 15, 2012 in Patterns | 0 comments
In the Beginning…
This post is of a simple crochet flower pattern that my mother wrote back when she first learned to crochet in the 1960s. This simple, symmetrical crochet flower can be utilized in a number of ways, so be creative with it!
Part 1 of 2
I will be splitting this post into two parts. The first (this post) is going to be of this particular crochet flower pattern. The second (the next post) is going to be a continuation of this flower pattern and turning it into a flower-granny square crochet pattern.
Mama Gamez’s Flower
Here are a few notes before you begin:
- Skill Level: Easy
- Size and Gauge: Not important.
- Materials I used: Worsted weight yarn and a size “I” hook. Feel free to use any size yarn or hook you want.
- IMPORTANT: This flower is worked in continuous rounds; do NOT turn and work the other way.
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
Do 4 ch. Join them with a sl st to form a 4-ch loop.
Round 1: Do 3 ch (this counts as your first dc). Do 18 dc into the 4-ch loop you created. Connect the final dc with a sl st to the top of your first 3-ch post.
Round 2: Sl st around the 3-ch post that began the previous row (this will lower the next row a little below the edge of the first round). *Ch 4, skip the next 4 dc (the 3-ch post you started on does not count), and sl st around the post of the 5th dc*. Repeat from * to * 3 more times; connect the final 4-ch row with a sl st to the first 4-ch row (not the 3-ch post).
Round 3: *Do 3 ch (count as your first dc in each large petal). Do 8 dc around the first 4-ch row. Sl st to the next 4-ch row*. Repeat from * to * 3 more times to form the next 3 large petals; connect with a sl st to the base of the first 3-ch post of the round.
Round 4: *Do 4 ch. Sl st around the 5th dc post of the first large petal. Do 4 ch again. Sl st between the two large petals*. Repeat from * to * 3 more times; connect the final 4-ch row with a sl st to the first 4-ch row.
Round 5: *Do 3 ch (counts as your first dc in each small petal). Do 4 dc around the first 4-ch row. Sl st to the next 4-ch row*. Repeat from * to * 7 more times to form the next 7 small petals; connect with a sl st between the first and final petal.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
